One of our latest projects takes us to the beautiful property of the Silverton Casino here in Las Vegas. We have been hired to clean up years worth of technological changes implemented by multiple vendors, 17 to be exact. With the need for 100% up-time companies seem to stray from removing equipment or migrating older systems into something current. The motto in this case for them is “if it’s not fully broke, don’t fix it”. Instead they resort to adding in what they need to get by… while leaving out dated systems, unused equipment and a mess of wire behind. With the Silverton starting out as Boomtown in 1994 and the casinos remodel in 2004 we had no audio/visual plans to work from. This would explain at least partly why corners have been cut over all of these years, no one wants to break down a system over a tiny upgrade. With the lack of plans or information they all seemed to take the get in, get out mentality.
The first 2 weeks of this project we scoured 5 equipment rooms to tag every audio and video source including all cresnet devices on property. Our goal on this project is to upgrade the properties current audio system from an older Peavey MediaMatrix and DMX audio service to a modern BSS London Blu fed by custom playlists from Alcorn McBride digital media players. Phase 2 will bring all of the video distribution and touchpanel programming up to our standards while providing a current set of programming code, touchpanel graphic files and complete set of plans for the audio/video on property. Currently the Silverton has no information left behind from other companies that would associate what wire tag goes where, just imagine what it takes to troubleshoot something on the fly if one wire takes half of the property down…
